- • Abdominal-perineal resection is sometimes needed to control pain, bleeding or infection caused by tumor
- breakdown.
- • Radiation has helped control pain and bleeding. The use of radiosensitizing drugs may improve local control.
- • Endoscopic laser treatment has been used to reduce local tumor obstruction and also, sometimes, to control
- bleeding ( see Laser Therapy ).
- • Combination chemotherapy with 5-FU + mitomycin or 5-FU+ cisplatin as well as bleomycin or
- investigational combinations (see BELOW) can be considered. For those who don't respond to these drugs,
- cisplatin + 5-FU therapy may be a good salvage program.
